Requirements for Australian-based pharmacists

  • Current AHPRA registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia
  • Bachelor of Pharmacy qualification (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 1 year experience in the setting you are applying for (hospital or community)
  • Strong clinical knowledge and problem-solving ability
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
  • Cultural awareness and ability to work with diverse communities

International candidates

Relocating from overseas?

Requirements for International pharmacists

  • Current AHPRA registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia
  • Pharmacy qualifications from countries with healthcare systems comparable to Australia are highly regarded
  • Applicants from other qualification backgrounds should have completed the relevant assessment pathway (e.g. KAPS/OPRA) and internship requirements in Australia
  • Recent experience practising in Australia or New Zealand is advantageous
  • Visa sponsorship and relocation support may be available for suitable candidates (requirements for visa eligibility can be found on the Australian immigration website – immi.homeaffairs.gov.au)

Career Pathways

We place pharmacists and pharmacy technicians across two primary settings. Both offer distinct clinical experiences, work environments, and career development opportunities.

Hospital Pharmacy

As a pharmacist in the hospital setting, you will deliver clinical pharmacy services across hospital wards, supporting safe and effective medication use while working closely with medical and nursing teams.

Duties and responsibilities in the hospital include:

  • Providing ward-based clinical pharmacy services
  • Dispensing, compounding, and medication reviews
  • Patient counselling and medicines information
  • Supporting and supervising interns, students, and pharmacy staff
  • Participating in clinical rotations and rostered services
  • Ensuring compliance with Australian safety and quality standards

Community Pharmacy

Community pharmacists have a frontline role in everyday patient health, working in retail or standalone pharmacy environments.

Duties and responsibilities in the community include:

  • Prescription dispensing and medication counselling
  • Vaccination programs and health screening (must be an approved vaccinator and registered with the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR)
  • Chronic disease management (diabetes, asthma etc.)
  • MedsCheck and Home Medicines Reviews (HMR)
