Job Overview: Our client is seeking a Head Nurse - Operating Room to join their team. Under the direction of the Assistance Nursing Director, assumes twenty-four-hour responsibility for managing the human and material resources of the assigned unit. Leads and manage the provision of high quality of nursing care, in an environment that fosters and encourages staff growth and both patient and staff satisfaction. Develop and implement the nursing operational plan within the unit that aligned with nursing strategic to achievement of the Hospital mission & Vision

Job Summary - Primary Duties:

  • Carries out daily patient rounds within their clinical areas to assess nursing care, and patient satisfaction
  • Demonstrates "hands on" clinical skills specific to area of practice and other job assignments as required.
  • Develop & monitor nurse duty schedules and adjust for sickness and absenteeism, plan efficient use of staffing resources on the unit, ensuring that staffing levels are safe, appropriate, and have necessary skill mix on each shift.
  • Ensure that all nursing care plans and other documents are properly and accurately completed.
  • Oversees the assignment of daily responsibilities i.e.; checking crash cart, narcotics and other relevant staff assignments.
  • Planning and forecasting staffing requirements and make changes to ensure effective deliverance of services.
  • Monitoring and reviewing levels of staff, grade and skill mix in line with current practice and patient dependency, recommending appropriate changes to meet service demands.
  • Ensures effective staff utilization to meet the needs of the service according to the patient acuity status.
  • Respond to patient and family concerns and consult with other involved services as required.
  • Work with head of department and the multidisciplinary teams to participate in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care in their clinical areas.
  • Lead the nursing team and ensure that each patient has an identified and appropriate named nurse who is suitably qualified.
  • Supervises the performance / clinical practice of relevant nursing staff and take all the necessary and appropriate action where performance does not meet the required standard through counselling/ educational/ clinical recommendations.
  • Participates fully with the Director of Nursing in the design and implementation of a Nursing Department strategic plan and operational plans aligned to hospital strategic.
  • Accepts delegated responsibility and accountability from the Assistant of Nursing Director for a designated period of time during approved leave/absence from work.
  • Encourage staff participation in change management and innovation through staff engagement
  • Have an integral role in all aspects of Staff Development, Empowerment and Management within his/her specific unit under the direction and guidance from Nursing Administration and the Continuing Nursing Education Service
  • Ensure that all his/her nursing staff have been assessed and checked off for the General and Unit Specific Competencies.
  • Together with Clinical Instructor ensure Nursing Interns/ Students are appropriately supervised and that learning outcomes are achieved.
  • Participates in developing, maintaining and updating written evidence-based policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of these in-patient units.
  • Ensures Hospital Policies and Procedures, Standards of Nursing Care are maintained within Care Areas and takes immediate and appropriate action when "noncompliance" is noted and reported to the Assistant Nursing Director.
  • Ensure that all care provided is regularly and systematically evaluated against expected outcomes, ensuring any necessary changes are implemented.
  • Receives and investigates OVRs in a timely manner to determine the nature of the problem and take immediate corrective action as appropriate.
  • Ensure the service provided by the unit, promotes safe infection control practices in accordance with the Standards laid out by Hospital Infection Control Department.
  • Participate as an integral member of a Multi-cultural and Multi-disciplinary Health Care Team while demonstrating a high level of professional practice.
  • Ensure that all practices and interactions on the unit are based on the preservation and respect of patient's dignity, individual independence and cultural identity.
  • Responsible for complying with the hospital code of conduct and the patient and family rights standards.

Experience and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor, Sciences of Nursing (BSN) from recognised college.
  • Minimum of 7 years progressive post-graduate experience with 2 years recent acute hospital experience as Head Nurse/Senior Nursing post (Essential),
  • Required Trainings, Certifications (ACLS, PALS, NRP) and Courses according to area of Sub-Speciality
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) if Applicable,
  • Computer skills, knowledge of MS Office full package application.
  • Possess a broad range of knowledge in the healthcare system.
  • Thorough knowledge of a specialized or technical field such as nursing, managed care, and nursing administration.
  • Knowledge of healthcare innovation and technology.
  • Knowledge of safety requirements to provide instructions and to recognize and correct hazardous condition.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills including achieving operational efficiencies and maintaining budgets.
